Scholarship  

A scholarship - also known as a bursary - is financial support that you don't have to pay back. It is not a loan, which you do have to pay back

To help students manage the cost of university, the University of Sunderland have a number of generous scholarship packages.

Home(UK) or European Union students

  • Get There Scholarship: Free public transport travel for 12 months or £500 discount on University accommodation
  • Excellence Scholarship: £2,000 tuition fee reduction
  • Off-Campus Scholarship: £2,400 tuition fee reduction for students at a partner college 
  • Care Leavers' Scholarship: £1,500 cash scholarship in each year of the course
  • Income-assessed Scholarship: £2,000 tuition fee reduction
  • Athlete Scholarship: £250 ~ 450 cash, plus in-kind support worth £350 ~ 550.
  • Postgraduate study scholarship: £750 tuition fee reduction for Sunderland alumni

International students

You are classed as an International student if you are from a country outside of the European Union. All undergraduate and postgraduate International students are eligible for the International Scholarship.

The International Scholarship reduces the tuition fee you pay in your first year by £1,500. This scholarship is applied automatically - you don't have to apply for it. The scholarship is in the form of a fee waiver, which means that your tuition fee is reduced by £1,500.
