Course Content

Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma qualifications have a minimum of 240 credits in 8 Core Units and 8 Specialist Units.

Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diplomas in Business have been developed to focus on:

• providing education and training for a range of careers in business such as management, administration, personnel, marketing, accounting, and law;
• providing a general qualification which allows flexibility of study to meet local or specialist needs;
• providing specialist options which meet the needs of the major functions in business and allow specialisation with career progression and professional recognition in mind;
• providing opportunities for learners to focus on the development of higher-level skills in a business context;
• providing opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life;
• providing opportunities for individuals in employment to achieve a nationally recognized level 5 HND Diplomas;

• providing opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised qualification to enter employment in business or progress to a higher education qualification such as a full-time degree in business or a related area.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Delivery of the module/unit will be through a blend of lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops (if applicable). Lectures are a major part of the teaching strategy for the programme. Case studies are a teaching and learning strategy, which are employed in a range of modules: they are useful assessment tools. Students are presented with real or simulated complex business situations which they are required to analyse in details and then synthesise/present their own solutions in writing and orally.

Students are expected to take greater responsibility for their own learning as they progress through their programmes. The student-centred approach will be encouraged through the use of specific teaching strategies; case studies; projects and practical exercises (if applicable), supplemented by the use of appropriate support materials; etc. Active engagement with the subject material enhances learning and many of the learning strategies used attempt to promote this.

Assessment and Examinations

The Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND in Business is assessed by written assignments in total (of 2,500 - 3,500 words each). The assessment strategies are designed to provide suitable purpose for the individual units of study. Assessments relate directly to learning outcomes and one assessment usually covers a range of learning outcomes. Assessments take the form of examinations (seen/unseen, open book, essays/short answers – if applicable), report, case study, presentations, individual and/or group reports etc. All assessments are of equal weighting.

Graduation Requirements and Progression

Students are required to successfully pass 16 modules/units of the Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma. Successful HND Diploma students can progress into the final year of the Bachelor Degree programme recommended by Pearson UK and/or TEG International College.
