TEG Certificate in General English
In this programme, students are equipped with necessary knowledge and skills facilitating their study in higher education in modern learning environment and methodology; and also provided with opportunities practising their soft skills such as professional presentation; team working; problems solving and others. Programme Structure:
The structure of the course consists of four language levels, 1, 2, 3 and 4. At the lower language levels 1 and 2, the emphasis is almost entirely on General English, and it will enable you to make a smooth transition to English for Academic Purposes component. General English follows a syllabus of grammatical, lexical, phonological, textual, functional and contextual language features in an integrated and carefully planned sequence. Increasing complexity of student-centred tasks and projects will lead students into the Academic English unit. Academic English covers a range of language skills and activities specific to academic contexts: reading for gist, summarising, listening to lectures, essay and report-writing, projects and making presentations. Study skills includes note-taking, getting and transferring information from text, tables and diagrams, summarising arguments, planning papers and dissertations and where appropriate IT skills used. Students are given opportunities to practise with foreign teachers. The School will also closely monitoring their study to ensure the most successful outcomes and results. On successful completion of each programme level, students will be awarded the respective certificate. TEG Certificate in General English and English for Academic Purposes Level 4 is also externally examined by the University of Sunderland, UK and accepted as their equivalent of IELTS 6.0. |
