Do you want to develop your capacity to be a teacher of teachers? This course is a well-structured preparation for the exciting and rewarding area of teacher education.

The course is suitable for two broad groups of people. The first group consists of qualified, experienced teachers who want to shift the focus of their career by moving into teacher education. The second group consists of people who already work in teacher education and who would now like to enhance their professionalism and rigorous approach.

You will study the theory and practice of teacher education. Modules include ‘Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment’ and ‘The Discipline of Education’. You will also develop your ability to develop a teacher education curriculum through practitioner research.

We will arrange a placement for you with teacher educators. As part of this, you will team teach on courses for initial teacher training and on programmes for continuing professional development.

The course is offered through SUNCETT, the University-based Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training. SUNSETT brings together teacher educators, mentors, teachers, student teachers, placement providers and employers across the North of England.

We also offer a part-time Professional Teacher Educator MA which offers a more flexible option for people with other commitments.
