Campus safety
Sunderland is in the top ten safest universities in England and Wales, according to official police data published in June 2012. Student safety is very important to us at Sunderland, and we provide a number of support services to help students to study and socialise in a safe environment. Our free campus bus provides safe and reliable transport between the two campuses and all the student accommodation centres. During the evenings the campus bus operates a night service, which also calls at the Students' Union social venues North Shore and the Bonded Warehouse.
Crime Prevention The University of Sunderland has a Crime Prevention team and two dedicated campus police offers who run drop-in sessions to help students stay safe while at university. To help prevent thefts, the University provides UV pens to mark property, and the Campus Police also have an engraving tool which can be used on larger items such as bicycles. The University of Sunderland does not tolerate any kind of hate crime on or off campus, and we have strong links with ARCH, an organisation which supports the victims of racism, homophobia, transphobia, religious hate incidents or disability hate incidents. Contacting security To report an emergency (24-hour) Call 999 for police, ambulance or fire and rescue service if you witness a crime in progress or if there is an emergency. Then call the University's dedicated emergency number 4444 to alert the University's Security Service. To report a security incident (24-hour) Report any security incidents, concerns or suspicions to the University of Sunderland Security Service (24-hour service): 0191 515 2028.
