Duration

3 years

The study of photography allows you to develop visual literacy and technical capabilities. These are valuable skills in any career where imagery is important.

You can choose to spend a third or half of your study time on photography. It would combine particularly well with subjects such as journalism, Public Relations or business, although other combinations are available within the Combined subjects programme.

Depending on your choice of modules, you can create work for a final year exhibition and build up a portfolio of work that will open up a wide range of job opportunities.

You will receive excellent support from tutors who have well-established reputations, both as professional photographers and as academic researchers into the theory and history of photography.

In addition our team of technicians will help you make the most of the University‘s extensive facilities. These include darkrooms (chemical and digital), photography studios, cameras and digital suites with open-access Apple Macs loaded with the latest software.

Right from the start, there is a high level of support from the Combined Subjects team. Throughout your degree you will have a Personal Tutor who will monitor progress, discuss options and offer appropriate guidance.

The University runs the North East Photography Network (NEPN) which links professional photographers working in the North East. We encourage our students to participate in the NEPN's events and make contacts for potential placements and work experience.
