Education and Curriculum Studies (2 Year Top-Up)

UCAS Code: CID863

Duration: 2 years

This course provides a degree-level opportunity for professional development that is suitable for those working with young people in the early years or primary education sectors.

This is a two year course, running one evening a week (Wednesday 5pm-8pm).

Work-based learning is an essential part of the course. You should be working in a paid or voluntary capacity in early years or primary education for at least two days a week; a letter of endorsement from your employer is a requirement for starting the course.

To allow for work-based learning, lectures and seminars always take place in the evening. Contact time is usually from 5pm-8pm on Wednesdays with potentially a different evening for classes and tutorials in the second year of the course.

You will study core modules on ‘Society and Schooling’, ‘Equality and Diversity’ and ‘Special Educational Needs’. There is then an optional module depending on whether you work in early years or whether you work in primary education, for example as a teaching assistant.

The dissertation will be on a topic of relevance to you and your workplace. It’s an opportunity to further develop skills in critical thinking, reflection, research and academic writing.
