Primary Education with QTS BA (Hons)

UCAS Code: X112

Duration: 3 years

Intl Fee: £9,500

This three-year course provides Initial Teacher Education for people who would like to teach at primary level. You will gain both an honours degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Most people take at least four years to gain QTS, with a three-year degree then a year's PGCE. But with this course, you gain QTS in just three years. This represents significant savings in time, course fees and living costs.

According to the National Student Survey, 96% of our education students find that staff are good at explaining things and make the subject interesting.

In each year of the course there is a blend of studying at the University of Sunderland and in-school experience in one of our partner schools. This allows you to put your new knowledge straight into practice and gain real-world learning.

While at the University, you will study modules such as 'Education Studies', 'Core Curriculum Subjects' and 'Wider Curriculum Subjects'.

According to the Teaching Agency in 2012, the average starting salary in teaching is £22,800. This is high compared to the average graduate starting salary. There is also the benefit that teachers receive more holidays than many people in other professions.
