Around 9 out of 10 students on our drama courses believe that staff are good at explaining things, according to the National Student Survey. You will develop your skills in performance through practical sessions at all stages of the course. Modules include ‘Applied Theatre and Drama’, ‘Theatre Production’ and ‘Acting and Directing’. You will undertake a ‘Live Project’ module which, for example, might involve touring a piece of drama or taking it into schools. Your academic studies begin with an exploration of realism and naturalism in drama. You then move on to artistic developments, critical issues and innovations in theatre practice leading to the present day. Modules include ‘Performing Arts in Context’, ‘Modern Tragedy’ and ‘Shakespeare in Performance’. Teaching is enriched by the research of our staff. This focuses on areas such as scriptwriting and performance, North East playwriting, interventionist theatre and continental theatre. Your tutors will help you towards excellent communication and creative skills. These are valued by many types of employer.
