Duchess of Northumberland gets all fired up at National Glass Centre , 12/04/2014, 18:04 GMT+7 The Duchess of Northumberland blows glass to launch new project between National Glass Centre and The Alnwick Garden. The Duchess of Northumberland visited National Glass centre today (Wednesday 9 April) to blow her own glass bauble, launching an exciting new project between the Centre and The Alnwick Garden, Northumberland The bauble The Duchess blew will be the first bauble of a major glass artwork in the shape of a Christmas tree to be installed at The Alnwick Garden in October 2014. The Glass in the Garden project sees National Glass Centre and The Alnwick Garden recruit 1000 participants between 21 July and 31 August, to blow the 1000 baubles required to create their impressive glass Christmas tree, in time for the installation in October 2014. For £15 per person, each participant will be taught by National Glass Centre’s skilled glass makers, how to form and shape the glass; apply colour and pattern; and finally blow the glass into a beautiful bauble. All baubles will then be gathered together to create the installation for public view at The Alnwick Garden from October half-term. Every contributor to this exciting initiative will receive two free tickets to The Alnwick Garden (worth £27.50) to see the thrilling result of their hard work when it is installed.
